Pupil Premium

At Adamsrill Primary School, we are committed to securing the best outcomes for all our pupils.

As a school we will challenge individual pupils to achieve the highest levels regardless of prior attainment or personal circumstances.

Pupil Premium funding is a key resource for ensuring the realisation of these aspirations for some pupils.

The funding is paid to schools for each pupil who is identified as being eligible for Free School Meals, or ‘Looked After’ by the Local Authority, or who have a parent serving in the armed forces. This identified funding will be strategically deployed thereby enabling and supporting targeted children within these groups to achieve in line or above with similar groups nationally.

The funding criteria makes it explicit that personalised support is provided to close the gap in learning between underperforming and vulnerable groups.

The Pupil Premium was initially introduced in April 2011 when schools received an additional £488 for each of their pupils that were eligible for free school meals.  For the financial year 2016-2017, the Government increased the pupil premium allowance to £1,320 per pupil receiving Free School Meal, and £1,900 to ‘looked after’ pupils. The funding allocated for the children of service personnel has increased to £300 per pupil.

The DfE has given schools the freedom to use the Pupil Premium funding as they see fit, based upon their knowledge of pupil needs.

‘It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per Free School Meal pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.’

However, we are accountable for the use of this additional funding.
